Well... this marks a new adventure in the life of Brad & Nadia (aka Bradia)... we are having a baby. YIKES! Are we crazy? 2 dogs and a baby?! I know what else we should add to that... two film careers. Yup, perfect.
To help us remember all of the landmark dates and events, I figured we should start a blog so that we always have a place to look given that photo albums, scrapbooking and journaling are not really our style...
So to test our first posting, I'll simply note some key dates:
Sept 30, 2009 we test positive on our first home pregnancy test. I'm in such shock I take another one only a few hours later. (Exactly 7 years after our first date in 2002!)
Oct 1, 2009 I have my first appt. with Dr. Roberston where she confirms the news, and determines that at this point I'm already almost 8 weeks preggo... should've guessed by how sore my boobs were and my raging, random appetite.
We keep the news quiet at this point, only telling a few select friends and family members, until our next Doctor appt at 12 weeks. We figure at 3 months we can spread the news.
Here are my brief notes on the first trimester:
Week 8 - Boobs are killing in a major way. 135 lbs.
Week 9 - Morning sickness comes on like crazy this week & so so tired...
Week 10 - Feel like crap - tired & hungry & sick & grumpy all the time -- Poor Brad.
Week 11 - Sill feeling crappy...
Week 12 - Still super tired. Eating a lot of comfort food this month.
Oct 30 is Week 12 and we have our 2nd appt with Dr. R and hear our baby's heartbeat for the first time! We thought we were going to be all distanced and tough about it, but both of us welled up with tears. We put our first Facebook status update online about being preggers today. I'm 142 lbs.
After that, we continued on with life :) 3rd anniversary of mom's death on Nov. 2 which was tough... my 30th and dad's 60th bdays in Dec... a trip to Vegas with Brad & Dad & Cecile, then Toronto / Muskoka for a Christmas visit & to meet our new niece, Madeline.
Jan 10, 2010 at 22 weeks, we have our 3D Ultrasound and find out we're having a GIRL!!! We had already decided on a name for a girl, luckily... Veronica Linda-Kathleen Mear. We post lots and lots of pix on Facebook... Our next 3D visit is on Feb 21. I'm feeling better this month and have gone back to work full-time.
Jan 15, 23 weeks I go in to see Dr. R again, and seems all my blood, urine, pap etc tests have all come back great. I have put on some MASSIVE weight over Christmas and need to watch it from now on... I'm 152 lbs.
Jan 21, we have our regularly scheduled 18 week ultrasound at 24 weeks... (ahh good old reliable MSP) and it's confirmed that we're having a girl... also that my placenta is sitting low so I have to go back in for another one at 32 weeks. But overall, Baby Veronica is healthy :)
And that pretty much brings us up to date. Today I'm 24 1/2 weeks preggers, feeling a bit tired this week but still working away. I'm trying to eat healthier now as my cravings have subsided, but I'm still needing many more carbs than I've EVER let myself eat before. Maybe by Feb I'll actually get my butt back to the gym so I can at least have some relatively skinny thighs again.

I am so glad that you are doing this. Why? a) I'm a huge fan of blogs and b) Leon are in a massive should-we, shouldn't-we place about baby making and reading about your journey will be fascinating for me.
ReplyDeleteMy first question (I may ask many!)...when you say 'go back to work full time' what work were you referring to?
Second question (just came to me)...were you two trying to get preggo when it happened or was it a total fluke despite using BC or...?
Hey KJ... Glad I may have one reader!! Maybe you get notified that I'm responding here, but probably not?!
ReplyDeleteQ1: I work for a film company-- doing Script Development & Associate Producing the movies that we've selected to shoot... I still do theatre, but when my mom died in 2006 I had to take a back seat to myself and find something else I loved to do other than perform... I just couldn't give my heart to others for a while... and producing a movie is like taking on a really really big theatre project ;p
Q2: We 'pulled the goalie' so to speak about a year before getting preggo... I had been on the pill since I was 16 & so I gather it was a combo of timing & getting it out of my system.. We sort of thought it was about 'time' for us, and knew as freedom-loving-contract-working-artists we were never going to be "ready". If it happened, it happened!! But even when it happened, we were shocked... my mom passed away from Ovarian Cancer & I had always had issues with my cycle etc., so we actually wondered whether or not I was going to be capable... Guess so!!
